Every year runners from around the country descend on the Napa Valley for the Napa Valley Marathon and Half Marathon. The race is a Boston Marathon Qualifier, so some of these runners are the best of the best! I am not, but I do enjoy running the half marathon race down Silverado Trail…and the pampering that comes afterward! This year, I treated myself to a spa day at B Spa at Bardessono in Yountville. Bardessono is the only LEED Platinum certified hotel in Yountville and the perfect place to recover from a race.

The beauty of the valley landscape inspires B Spa. It offers a quaint haven to reconnect with nature and your inner self. One of my favorite things about B Spa is they have incorporated native botanicals that have nourished the soil and soul of Napa Valley into their treatments. It is the perfect place to let your cares melt away.

I scheduled my spa day for the Wednesday after the race. That way, I wouldn’t be too sore to enjoy it! I booked a 50-minute Bardessono Signature Massage and added the “Heaven and Earth” elevation to make the experience a blissful 80 minutes. B Spa is located in the heavenly courtyard of Bardessono below the pool (we will get to that in a second). Walking in, you immediately feel at ease. The staff is warm and friendly. I took a few minutes to pursue the retail at the spa, bathing suites, spa products, and the like, before being shown to the ladies’ locker room. The locker room is cozy, equipped with lockers to store your things and spa amenities. I quickly changed into my provided robe and slippers, grabbed a boxed water, and headed into the sauna. I always like to warm up before a massage, and the infrared sauna did the trick.

Already on the way to relaxation bliss, I was delighted when my massage therapists came to get me. Once in the B Spa treatment room, I was offered three different aroma theory scents to enhance my experience. Since relaxation is the name of the day, I chose the Relax scent. Once settled, it was time for 80 minutes of bliss! The Bardessono Signature Massage combines rhythmic, free-style techniques that are performed in harmony for relief from muscle tension and to create deep relaxation. I could feel the tension from my half marathon run a few days before melting away. The Heaven and Earth add one was a stimulating scalp massage using a selection of conditioning oils and pressure point massage of the hands and feet. I knew how good it would feel on my feet after running 13.1 miles, but I had NO IDEA how good it would feel on my hands. I do a lot of computer work and, apparently, that can be very trying on your hands. The 80 minutes went by way too quickly for my liking!

After my massage, I headed back into the locker room for a quick rinse in the giant shower and headed up to the rooftop pool. Rooftop activities like a pool or bar are a rare in Napa Valley and even more so in Yountville. Bardessono is the only hotel in Yountville with a rooftop pool, and boy, is it beautiful. With views of the Mayacamus Mountains, the pool and hot tub are the perfect places to take a deep breath and relax. On my Wednesday afternoon, I was the only one enjoying the pool deck, so I quickly claimed a daybed and headed into the hot tub.

Bardessono’s restaurant Lucy also provides special pool drinks and bites if you need refueling from all your relaxing. The pool is open to all guests and to Spa day guesst Monday – Wednesday with a booked spa service for a fee of $50 per person. It is well worth the time to recenter yourself under the wine country sky.

Most people come to Yountville and the Napa Valley for the food and wine, but you are missing out if you don’t take advantage of the fabulous spas and resorts peppered throughout the valley.

Whether you are looking to center yourself or want one last treat before flying home, do yourself a favor and book a treatment at B Spa at Bardessono.
