Often times visitors assume that Harvest is the best time of year to visit the Napa Valley.  While harvest brings a buzz of activity (nothing like seeing trucks full of grapes zipping up and down the highway, or waking up to the smell of fresh pressed grapes in the air), there are many other times of year that provide a different pace, perspective and view of the landscape.  I personally love the winter season, as the rain that comes with it blankets the hillsides in lush, dense green.  As the winter rains give way to the first hints of spring, the mustard flowers begin to bloom, which soon turn into a carpet of wild yellow mustard blooms between rows of vineyards.  Mustard season is typically January through March, with bud break signaling the end of mustard season and the start of the new growing season.  Mustard season is by far one of the most beautiful times to visit Yountville & the Napa Valley!

With the slower pace, after a bustling harvest & holiday season, visitors might find more time to linger while enjoying the view at one of our many wineries, restaurants, or patio of their hotel room.  Set aside time to discover the best spots for the perfect mustard photo!  The following map is a great guide to some of the best spots to snap a perfect mustard photo.  We do caution:  be sure to pull safely off the road, avoid private property, and please be mindful of the grapevines.

Bacon & Wine Experience
Our chef has added a unique flavor to our Bacon & Wine Experience in honor of the Napa Valley mustard season. When pairing mustard and wine, the most essential detail is the intensity of the mustard. Your wines should have the same flavor intensity as your food. Mustard has a wide variety of power based on the many different styles. We decided to pair our 2019 Priest Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon with bacon coated with Honey Mustard. Honey mustard has a slight sweetness to coincide with its tangy flavor. Because our Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of red fruits, spices, vanilla, and a hint of cherry cola, it can help counteract those flavors of honey mustard but will also cut the salt and fat you get from the bacon. Only available by appointment, now through March 2023.
