By all accounts, Cliff Lede Vineyards, located in the historic Stags Leap District, is one of the most exciting family-owned wineries in Napa Valley. The winery is at the top of its winemaking game, pulling in 100-point scores from the country’s most revered critics, while all the while welcoming guests with classic rock music, a priceless collection of contemporary art, a focus on Bordeaux-varietals, and an unpretentious vibe.

Originally from Edmonton, Canada, Cliff Lede (pronounced lay-dee) fell in love with Napa Valley, like so many visitors do. Inspired by the rugged terrain and wine country lifestyle, he purchased the 60 acres and existing property on Yountville Crossroad in 2002. Over the last two decades, in addition to modernizing the winery and wine caves, he has worked to optimize the vineyards, (named after his favorite classic rock songs), to produce the best caliber of fruit. His investment and intuition have paid off. Today the winery receives accolades from critics, orders from some of the country’s best restaurants, and is included in itineraries from visitors around the world.

Plan a Visit

Now run by Cliff’s son Jason, the winery prides itself on offering a complete Napa Valley experience with a classic rock edge, where the best in wine, music, art, architecture, and nature intersect. Set among the rugged hills of the Stags Leap District appellation, the winery plays homage to this captivating view. The knowledgeable staff are eager to share their insights, making each visit as informative as it is engaging. The Reserve Tasting ($70/person), for example, treats guests to selection of current releases, such as the winery’s stellar Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignons, and their famous ‘Rock Block Series’ small lot wines. Relax on the outdoor veranda or inside the tasting room for a leisurely exploration of the wines and the winery’s history while a classic rock playlist is heard overhead and stunning views unfurl in front of you. A cheese and charcuterie plate can be added for an additional fee.

For a deeper experience and a chance to try some of the winery’s top scoring Platinum wine portfolio, try the VIP Experience overlooking the winery’s Poetry Vineyard (so named for the adage from Robert Louis Stevenson ‘wine is bottled poetry’) or the Backstage Tasting Lounge, where guests are treated to the winery’s revolving collection of contemporary art, much inspired and produced by classic rock artists. For a private experience and to get a fuller understanding of Napa Valley’s most iconic sub-appellation, book the Private Appellation Tour & Tasting.
